Thanksgiving Food Basket Delivery – Serving 25 Area Families In Need

Posted on December 1, 2017

On November 20, Fairfax Lions delivered food baskets to 25 area families in need of food assistance. The baskets included a frozen turkey (11 – 14 lbs), cans of corn and green beans, a can of cranberry sauce, a box of Bisquick Baking Mix, a box of stuffing mix, 5 lbs. of potatoes, 1 lb. of carrots, a cake mix and tub of cake frosting, and a bag of fresh Florida oranges from the club’s recent citrus sale.

Fairfax Lions basket bearers included current Lions and a former Lion.  One Lion facilitated many deliveries by calling Spanish-speaking recipients to arrange their delivery. Also lending a hand during the delivery were Lion supporters and grandchildren.

Going hungry is an unfortunate reality for many people in our area. Even though Northern Virginia is considered one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, we still face a poverty rate of about 5%. According to U.S. Census figures, 30% of those are children.

This is one more example of what Fairfax Lions do to meet a need within our community – WE SERVE!!
