On Feb 2nd, Fairfax Lions presented a scholarship grant to Mr. Aleksander R, to enhance his potential to achieve an independent, self supporting life. The Grants are for sight handicapped individuals and may be used for assistive devices, educational/training expenses, and other expenses.
The scholarship grant program is made possible by the Virginia Lions Eye Institute Foundation and recognizes sight handicapped individuals with financial aid to help in their training or education. For more information, or to apply for a grant, see: http://vleif.org/scholarships/ or contact Fairfax Lions Club at info@fairfaxlions.org
A doctor from The Retina Group of Washington discussed AMD with Fairfax Lions and guests on February 2nd. AMD is a leading cause of loss of vision in persons over age 60. AMD results in the loss of central vision, while peripheral vision may be fully retained.
Guests at Fairfax Lions Club meetings are always welcome!
One of our regular Club services is providing holiday meals to family’s in our community. Main Street Child Development Center identifies families, and provides their facility for families to pick-up the meals. Lions assemble 2 bags for each family – nutritious food (carrots, green beans, corn, potatoes, apples, cranberry, cake mix, etc), and a gift card for the family to purchase an entree they prefer.
Due to concerns with the post-Thanksgiving COVID-19 spike, Fairfax Lions Club has canceled our Dec 17-19 sale. We had begun to accept pre-orders in early December and we will cancel and refund those orders immediately.
We hope 2021 will bring better things for all of us and that we will be able to return to our usual citrus sales in March, November, and December.
Please enjoy a safe and happy holiday season!
Our last fruit sale in 2020 opens on Thursday, Dec 17th. Sign up now to get notifications to pre-order, and discount coupons. Click this link: https://www.fairfaxlions.org/citrus-sale-notification/
