Each year the Fairfax Lions contribute financial support to Fairfax Little League teams. It is one way we can encourage youth participation in team sports, for their healthy development.
We were proud to receive plaque’s in recognition of our support. One sample is in the photo.
Fairfax Lions routinely clean up a section of Pickett Road, to help keep our community appearance looking good. On June 19th, our 10-person crew “suited-up” in safety vests, with grabbers and trash bags. We finished the job in less than 2 hours, and enjoyed breakfast at a local eatery.
Club President Mike Greeley, on June 15th, recognized three Club members for extraordinary accomplishments over the past year:
A Special Award for Excellence was presented to Lion Bill Szymanski, for achieving his personal goal of donating 71 “Power Packs” during the Club “70-for-70” campaign. Bill’s achievement was possible only by his exemplary dedication of time and personal resources, and his desire to support Club charitable work helping others.
A Melvin Jones Fellowship Award was presented to Club 2VP Jim Kaplan for his creative and sustained leadership over the past year to keep club operations on track, and members excited to engage, during the year of Covid.
The Lion-of-the-Year Award went to Lion Lion James Friedlander for his personal initiative in envisioning, creating, leading, and completing the important Club community service of donating nearly 200 “Power Packs” to Food for Others to assure school age children had decent meals for the weekends.
At the Club meeting on June 15th, Past Council Chair (senior position in VA Lions operations) Harry Parker installed the new slate of Fairfax Club officers and directors for the year beginning July 1, 2021.
Fairfax Lions Club supports the mission of Fairfax’s Main Street Child Development Center.
Main Street provides quality early-childhood education, and support, to empower children and families, regardless of financial circumstances. Every child deserves a chance to build a strong foundation for success! https://www.mainstreetcdc.org
On June 4th Fairfax Lions presented 40 children’s books for Main Street’s library. The library is being renovated, and the new books will provide years of learning and enjoyment for 2-5 year old pre-schoolers.
