Announcing our improved Vehicle Donation Program

Posted on November 23, 2014Comments are off

The Fairfax Lions are beginning a promotion this week for our new vehicle donations program. Donors can make tax deductible donations of automobiles, trucks, boats, motor homes, and other valuable belongings by calling 1-855-500-RIDE or by filling out an online form at

How to Donate

The generosity of our donors enables the Lions to support many local projects in support of our community. Since 1951 the Fairfax Lions have raised and returned more than $1,500,000 dollars to the community! We have provided more than 600,000 volunteer hours of hands-on assistance to those in need. The focus of our charitable work includes sight and hearing retention and youth programs. We collect and recycle eyeglasses, deliver food baskets to families in need, conduct an annual youth music scholarship competition, support Little League baseball teams, purchase new eyeglasses for individuals who cannot afford them, conduct 4 blood drives a year, support the Lions Eye Clinic at Inova Fairfax Hospital, and much more.

Our 1st Citrus Fruit Sale this fall took place Nov 20-22, 2014.  The weather was colder than usual, but our good & loyal customers  showed up!  Thanks to ALL of you who bought delicious naval oranges and ruby red grapefruit.  Because of our great customers, we sold-out of oranges by Friday noon.  It was a successful activity, and provides the Fairfax Lions Club a financial basis for our charity programs over the next year.  PLEASE KEEP US IN MIND FOR OUR NEXT CITRUS SALE, DEC 18-20, SAME PLACE!

Dr. Stough Speaks on “The Effect of Technology on Transportation Operations and Policy”

At our dinner meeting on November 18, 2014, our guest speaker was Dr. Roger Stough, Director of GMU’s International Center for Regulatory Science and Associate Dean of Research for the School of Public Policy. Dr. Stough discussed “The Effect of Technology on Transportation Operations and Policy”, which included a little bit of everything from Google’s driver-less vehicles (already on the road in two states), to toll roads, to “beam energy” powered flying cars. A common theme throughout his talk was that various forms of “institutional barriers” frequently hamper the introduction of technology-based efficiencies in transportation.
