Despite a rainy morning, the weather cleared for a wonderful July 4th parade in Fairfax City.  Many folks stopped by the Lions food booth for a hot dog, soda and chips.  The Lions thank you for your support.  This is one of our fund raisers – with ALL PROCEEDS going directly to serve your community! Please read more about our service programs on this web page.  We want you to visit our club – we will involve you right away in service which you will find very rewarding.

Speakers at Dinner Meetings

Fairfax Lions serve the local community through a variey of programs.  We are an all-volunteer service organization.  Learn more about us at https://fairfaxlions.org/about-us/

We also feature interesting speakers at our regular dinner meetings.  Recently, club member Lion Jim Kaplan gave a presentation on the Defense Intelligence Agency.  We learned about capabilities of DIA today, and history of the agency – complete with photos.   For example, we saw a photo of an intelligence analyst in 1961 responding to President Kennedy’s direction to the Agency to present to the public their conclusions about missiles having been based in Cuba.

Lions Call Bingo at Fairfax Nursing home

Your Fairfax Lions Club added a wonderful feature to monthly bingo at the Fairfax Nursing Home.  A blind member of the Lions Club “called” the bingo game on March 18, 2015.  The Club had purchased a braile bingo kit to make this possible.  The photo features Lion Lucia calling bingo on March 18.

Thank YOU for supporting our December 2014 Fruit Sale!!!

SOLD OUT!!!!citrus

Our December fruit sale was a big successs – we sold all the fresh grapefruit and oranges by noon Saturday, Dec 20.  We also sold all (but one) Vermont maple syrup, and most of the Virginia peanuts.

As you may know, our 3 annual fruit sales are our primary fund raising activities.  They enable the Fairfax Lions to conduct our many charity and service programs helping those in need in our local area.  (For information on those programs, please see that portion of this web site.)

So, a BIG thank you to all our friends and neighbors in Virginia, Maryland, and DC who were customers at the December fruit sale.

Also, thank you for bringing us your old eyeglasses.  We take used eyeglasses to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Northern Virginia http://www.valions.org/EGRC/ where they are cleaned, inspected and sorted by prescription.  The majority of the glasses are then sent overseas with eye care professionals and fit to individuals in need of eye glasses.  Some glasses go to depressed areas of the US where, with the assistance of trained medical personnel, they are distributed to needy citizens.

Our next fruit sale will be on March 12-14, 2015, same location (parking lot by Home Depot just south of Fairfax Circle on Old Lee Highway).  We look forward to fresh Valencia oranges along with great grapefuit fresh from Florida!
