Fairfax Lions each year raise funds by operating a food booth at the Fairfax City Fall Festival.  It is a great opportunityto have fun, interface with our comminity, and raise funds that go directly to our service programs. We are a non-profit, all volunteer organization; ALL PROCEEDS go to charity.  We thank the Fairfax community for suporting us, and enabling our mission of service to those in need.  THANK YOU!

Speaker: Child Abuse

Posted on October 8, 2015Comments are off

Our dinner meeting guest speaker on October 6 was Ms. Kay Corbett.  Kay is the author of “Calla Lilies: A True Story of Four Sisters and Their Struggle to Survive Abuse, Addiction, and Poverty in America.”  We learned about life-long struggles of young people who suffer abuse, as told from Kay’s perspective as step-mother of 4 abused girls, and the insensitivity of our justice system to such problems.  Of note: Fairfax County has set aside funding as a test to help treat victims of abuse who are now incarcerated; Kay considers this a big step forward.

Fairfax City Recognizes Lion of the Year!

Posted on August 6, 2015Comments are off

On Wednesday, August 5, 2015, Fairfax City Mayor T. Scott Silverthorne recognized our Lion-of-the-Year Marty Lockhard.

Marty Lockhard was named the Club’s Lion of the Year by Immediate Past President Mike Schutz, for Matry’s overeall enthusiasm and effort serving our community, and especially his work – as a new member – to initiate vision screening for persons at the Lamb Center.  Lions have conducted four separate screenings so far at the Lamb Center with state-of-the art-equipment, resulting in detecting vision issues in several deserving persons.

At the August 5 ceremony, held by Inter-Service Club Council of Fairfax, the city Mayor presents Marty with the honor.
